Cheapart is the most organized contemporary artistic movement, and the only context art gallery in Greece. Founded in 1995, it continuously works on promoting new trends and ideas. It has come into contact with a wide public – 75.000 people - in Athens and Thessalonica, and has given the opportunity to more than 400 artists mid career and established Greek and International artists - to communicate new ideas to a broad, demanding public of varied social groups.
cheapart is an open place for artistic experimenting and research.
Since its conception one of its main issues - the price of the art work - played an important role in establishing a relation with the public. By 1999 cheapart’s remit had entered a second phase where it began operating as an “open gallery space”, with emphasis on the experimental elements of artwork.Cheapart is a completely new experimental concept and for this reason has raised many questions regarding its role and intentions. Shows such as: Extensions of Man, Fake, Pausi (prototype for the 50th Biennale of Venice), Sleep Matters, Athens-Beijing (26A Bienale de Sao Paulo, Brazil) as also the installation presented at ARTATHINA "THE MACHINE", Who has any idea, what the Idea Is?, Tone Home, mark the above. The partnership in Vienna Austria since 2007 between the Künstlerhaus, Christian Rupp, Lorenz Seidler, holds the title ARTmART.
cheapart is exclusively, a cultural organization
Having no involvement in respect to sales, the organization is free to choose the general direction and philosophy of its exhibitions as well as the artists that will in return support the organization with their work. In order to accommodate artists and proposals, cheapart focuses exclusively on the artistic elements that make the proposed work entirely unique on an international art level.Cheapart is open to collaborations
As a non-profit organization cheapart is not competitive. Its philosophy and practice involves establishing partnerships that are otherwise financially unfeasible. In collaboration with each artist cheapart has the opportunity to integrate to the exhibition program, novel works that other galleries and artistic organizations do not exhibit considering them to be of high risk. (Cheapart's immediate objective is to collaborate and organize exhibitions that involve experimentation and research). Cheapart aims to be a place of research and experimentation for the whole artistic world by unlocking those elements that are the source of artistic expression setting aside financial commitments and considerations.
