cheapart is the most contemporary organized artistic movement and the only context art gallery in Greece. Founded in 1995, it has since then worked on promoting new trends and ideas.
Through its profile it came into contact with a wide public - 75000 people - in Athens and Thessalonica, something that was quite impressive. It gave the opportunity to more than 250 artists both young and older - to communicate with a wide demanding public from all social status.
cheapart is an open place for artistic experimenting and research.
From the beginning one of its main subjects - the price of the art work - played an important role in establishing a relation with the public. In 1999, having gained the trust of a wide public the organization passed on to its second phase, emphasizing on experimental elements of the artistic work.cheapart is something completely new and experimental and that is the reason for it having raised many questions regarding its subject matter, its role and intentions.
Shows such as: Extensions of Man, Fake, Pausi (prototype for the 50th Biennale of Venice),Sleep Matters, Athens-Beijing (26A Bienale de Sao Paulo, Brazil) as also the installation presented in ARTATHINA "THE MACHINE", Who has any idea, what the Idea Is;, Tone Home , mark the phase as mentioned above.
cheapart is exclusively, an artistic organization
Due to its involvement regarding the selling of works; the organization is free to choose the general orientation and philosophy of its exhibitions as well as the artists that will in return support the organization with their work. In order to accept artists and ideas, cheapart focuses on the special artisticfeatures that make the suggested work unique on an international artistic level.
cheapart is open to collaborations
As a non-profit organization cheapart is not competitive. Its philosophy and practice involves establishing co operations that are not otherwise feasible due to financial reasons. In collaboration with each artist cheapart has the opportunity to include in its exhibitions novel works that other galleries and artistic organizations do not exhibit because they are considered to be of high risk. (cheapart aims at collaborating and organizing exhibitions that involve experimentation and research).cheapart aims to be a place of research and experimentiation for the whole artistic world by freeing all those powers that are the source of artistic expression setting aside financial commitments and considerations.
