Yorgos Lintzeris’ work IN VITRO is a model of an artistic outdoor installation. Art ‘squats’ advertising billboards thus creating an ephemeral “STREET GALLERY” Works of big dimensions created using clip art and including aphorisms in many languages, replace the ads on the billboards all the way from Larissis to Metaxourgio Stations. The area is situated at the boarders of the city centre: a common choice of residence for immigrants and relocating nationals alike, right next to the central railway station among construction areas, petrol stations, garages, and cheap hotels. The choice of location is an inseparable element of the artistic idea. The aim was for the art to reach those people who wouldn’t normally get the chance to visit art galleries and museums. This feeling is simulated in the space of cheapart in the form of a 16-metre-long installation that mentally transports the viewer to the actual line connecting Larissis and Metaxourgio Stations. |
