The "maison", according to Lévi-Strauss, is a moral person, keeper of a domain composed altogether of material and immaterial property, which perpetuates itself by the transmission of its name, of its fortune and of its titles in a real or fictive line held as legitimate on the sole condition that this continuity can express it-self in the language of kinship or of alliance, and most often, of both together, as Susan D. Gillespie wrote. Responsible for manifesting its existence, "keeping" and enhancing the house fortune, the prestige of its name, and its property, maintaining it so that it "perpetuates itself". Fortune, in English and French can mean both "destiny, chance" and «riches, wealth." Four different perspectives, four different media, and four "maisons".
