MYOPIA & Blurred Soundscape
Myopia is a digital poem in the form of text and photography. The project is about love and how we "see" when we are in love. A game between the word Myopia and the emotional state of love.
Maria Bourbou started working on this idea in the spring of 2014. Originally, it was in the form of emails exchanged with a Portuguese artist, meaning to create a scheduled diary. The focus of the work is love and the disorder it causes. Bourbou interprets this confusion, through various images and/or repetitive photographs with small differences between them as well as with unordered text / poems. At times there is a form of numbering, a counting system with letters that depicts the effort of concentration. Some poems are written in Greek and some in English. Others are given as free style haiku, in attempt to describe specific situations. In this way Bourbou wants to illustrate an inner mesh, aiming to capture the feeling of love.
Initially, this project existed only in digital form, this enabled it to be presented in physical space in the form of an installation. Photos mix with wall-mounted texts to create a large page of poetry. In attempt to approach the word "love and capture its meaning, Bourbou creates a diverse world of images and words.
As a part of the exhibition "Nothing is really Queered", the "MYOPIA" installation by Maria Bourbou the music event "Blurred Soundscape" by Giannis Arapis who inspired by the project, creates soundscapes (electrical guitar).
Daphne Larounis oversees the installation.
