Probably Wonderful

Εvolution of technology & the rise of social consumer networks resurface the question on the work of art: "Is it important?"

Athens Intersection returns to its birthplace, a location that has become quite familiar to the public. The group exhibition "Probably Wonderful?" commenting on the importance of artwork will open on November 30, at 20.00 at the Paper Warehouse at 3 Chrysospiliotissis Street. The building is courtesy of the Hatzikonstas Foundation, which reopened after 17 years through the Revitalization of the Commercial Triangle program of the Municipality of Athens.

Constant bombardment of image and media communication has generated an overall confusion regarding our perception on the work of art; raising uncertainties which question and challenge contemporary art. The artist’s physical presence and his work validate as a whole, an entity that is closely evaluated by the art audience. Is then, the art we stand before a masterpiece, an outstanding work that will thrive in the years to come, or will it perhaps be a casualty of visual consumerism and overconsumption? These thoughts, however, are not transient nor ephemeral, they have been argued over a long period of time by artists, theoreticians and the art community. The evolution of technology and the rise of social consumer networks resurface the question regarding the work of art: "Is it important?" Ten artists comment with humor, spirit, evoking critical thinking on the importance of the work of art.

Participating artists: Ara Bogosian, Efi Fouriki, Marializa Kambi, Nina Kotamanidou, Panagiotis Koulouras, Nina Papaconstantinou, Katerina Papazisi, Ada Petranaki, Eleni Tsamadia, Michaelaggelos Vlassis-Ziakas

Curated by: Georg Georgakopoulos
