Summer 1998

Dreams of summer spontaneity by CHEAPART.
Entering summer through a burning hot door. The chill of critical thinking, settles. We are welcomed by magical images, as swift and sudden as a gesture or a brief sensation. Emotions that finally decided to provoke. Who will dare argue with them?

Panos Georgopoulos climbs on the trees of the brain to meet His Majesty's Pigs. Humans, plants and animals experience growing habits of interdependency, isolation and self destruction. Power symbols, ambiguous personas in bleak terrains, compose various images, open to dialogue with the viewer.

The animals of Nikos Kryonidis are confined to their square nests, contributing to the image of a recently lost civilization. Geometric compositions of an unproportional world. Universal disorder is sliced and placed in white boxes to be decided in the future.

Jens Lange hastily spreads his shadows on the wall. Figures that have been trapped in our summer dreams, air to the surface, in a hypnotic state and spread through translucent, kaleidoscopic spaces. One glance of them, allows them to root in one's memory forever. Caution. The huge crawfish, the artist at work, the midnight cowboy, are dangerous illusions and deceptive symbols.

Fiona Mouzakiti
insists on looking at her self reflection in the mirror. Forgotten things on the boudoir, symbols of female vanity, abandoned to their fate. As doors and windows open wide, tightly sealed images on cool sheets, explode in an inappropriate manner onto the paper. Small emotions and big emotions prepare to be offered in secret meetings. Fiona Mouzakiti meets the work of New Zealand artist Kate Mansfield's, through an engaging dialogue combining text and image. The juicy fruits of our paintings are sold at a bargain price. With every bite, confusion and discomfort grows. Taste them. They are ripe summer night dreams that have matured, especially to upset you.
