Who has any idea, what the idea is | Fotini Kapiris
CHEAPART enters its 9th year. The installation "Who has an idea, what an Idea is” by Fotini Kapiris is CHEAPART’s proposal for Art Athina 10, presented at the HELEXPO Exhibition Center in Marousi from March 27 to 31, 2003.
This installation is a practical mechanism which records the likes and dislikes of its observers. Posed for exhibition are: 20 ideas based on one work, 1 ballot box, 1 video comprised of 20 brief spots including the idea and its corresponding number on the catalogue, and ballots which help to direct the visitor on his/her choice as to which is the best idea presented.
The visitor is asked to choose through a voting process, the idea which best answers (to his/her opinion) to be the most successful promotion of the art work depicted in the video. 20 ideas compete to be the one to catch the attention and be favored as the best. For each of the ideas presented in pre-arranged area, exist their corresponding votes which are calculated and posted daily, as are those to follow. Each of the ideas are judged at the end of the exhibition, the end result of the voting process is posted, as well as the winning idea.
The catalogue works as a ballot through which the visitor can judge and evaluate the proposed ideas, whereas on the video he/she can watch the relative spots. 20 ideas proposed as individual works of art, have taken their final form with the ending of the exhibition, that is, when everyone who has been a part of the voting process has expressed their final preference.
What is an IDEA? Everyone should answer. No one needs to know as long as the answer given is satisfying.
