CHEAPART 2008 Thessaloniki

1998 – 2008
10 years CHEAPART in Thessaloniki

In 1995 when sixteen artists participated in the first CHEAPART questions were raised by the audience regarding the level of risk involved. Is the price, the actual value of the art work? Or perhaps, the issue of multiplicity? For sure the issue of the low selling price was and continues to provoke, yet at the same time many artists that collaborate with other art spaces have gained recognition through CHEAPART exhibitions due to their mass exposure to a wide public.

CHEAPART was first introduced to Thessaloniki in 1998. CHEAPART 2008 celebrates its 10th show at Former Camp Kodra, Kalamaria, presenting more than 90 selected artists with new and fresh work entities. The public has had the opportunity to see many of these artists stand before an international audience in May 2007 during the 1st international CHEAPART, ARTmART, and will have this opportunity again in November 2008 in Vienna.

CHEAPART has presented over than 300 artists during the past 12 years. Both artists and the public have become a part of this growing process, experiencing CHEAPART exhibitions as a friendly house gathering and have related on a personal level, exchanged views and ideas. CHEAPART is a continuously evolving art movement that produces new ideas, by engaging and experimenting with current issues and problematics in art. Via this catalyst, those involved in CHEAPART have become an organic part of the mechanism and have established a social platform based on trust and support.
