double-cross | Dimitris Georgakopoulos
The creation of an intermediate space, an area of transition from a given point A to a point B can easily acquire the shape of a corridor. This corridor can obtain meaning only if someone uses it, or at least imagines that he is using it. The certainty of what lies on the other side, the curiosity of where one could find himself or the desire about how far one could reach are the elements that could drive someone to go ahead.
The works «Head on», «I wish» and «Corridor» are three transportation devices realized in a climax slightly smaller than that of man. The audience cannot actually use them, but can imagine themselves using them, initiating thus a personal narration that refers to what they are seeing.
«Head on» directs you to a course of impact. It starts from a fixed point and leads to a specific destination. The certainty of the impact is predetermined, but the exact moment neither the result.
«I wish» a monument to vanity and praying at the same time directs you upwards from a fixed starting point to a constantly altering destination point. «Corridor» is a device that transports the spectators from the area where they are standing to a place they imagine they could find themselves.
All three of these transportation devices acquire their form by the multiplication of an archetypical unit with the shape of a three-dimensional cross.
