With a Little Help from my Friends | KYAN

KYAN is an artist run project space founded in 2021 by painter Kyvèli Zoi Stenou and Giorgos Anagnostis Stenos. Located within the salon of a 1938 Athenian town house, in the historic district of Exarheia, it serves as a creative platform for both local and international, emerging and mid-career artists. With a focus on fine arts, performance and music, the space aims to embody the idea of art as a force of change, through residencies and site-specific projects.
It is the first time that KYAN produces an exhibition beyond the borders of its project space, with the group show “With a Little Help from my Friends” for Back to Athens 9 – no apocalypse now. The theme of this site-specific presentation occurs in reference to the song “With a Little Help from my Friends” by the Beatles. The work presented is in the format of a commissioned artwork by each invited artist, in the size of A3 (approximately 30 x 50 cm.) dimensions. The purpose of this specific request per exhibiting artist, is to create a web of works in a consistent pattern, in order to portray the notion of companionship and friendship through the format of a visual letter. All the invited artists for this site-specific presentation are creators and thinkers who have played a key role in the development of the identity of KYAN as an artist run space for artists by artists. Through the presentation “With a Little Help from my Friends” the aim is to imply the notion of solidarity and unity amongst our growing artistic community, within the context of the intimate environment of the obscure and private service rooms of the Isaiah Mansion.
